or Mary, Queen of Scots
On this day in history, 8th December 1542, Mary Stewart (Stuart), or Mary, Queen of Scots, was born at Linlithgow Palace in Scotland. She was the daughter of James V of Scotland and his second wife, Mary of Guise, and the granddaughter of Margaret Tudor (Henry VIII’s sister) and James IV of Scotland.
Mary is known for being the "nemesis" of Elizabeth I and being implicated in plots against her, and for being executed in February 1587 after being found guilty of high treason.
