Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester in portraits
Thank you to Robert Parry, author of one of my all-time favourite historical novels (Virgin and the Crab) and Elizabeth, the Virgin Queen and the Men who Loved Her for sharing this video with us today.
Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, had numerous portraits made of himself, and was gracious enough not to seek to conceal the march of time. The portraits are presented here in roughly chronological order from youth to old age. Music by Henry Purcell.
Robert Parry is a UK writer of British historical fiction, with interests in a wide range of time periods, from Tudor & Elizabethan, through 18th-century Georgian, right up to the era of Victorian England and the Belle Époque. He has been writing stories for many years but his first novel was not released until 2009. Since then, five more have followed in fairly quick succession, his latest being The Testament of Sophie Dawes, a neo-Victorian novel which came out in March of 2016.
