As the celebrations for Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee kick off today, I wanted to mark the occasion by drawing attention to the fact that Queen Elizabeth II, like her namesake Queen Elizabeth I, has both Tudor and Boleyn blood.
Our present queen is descended from King Henry VII, the first Tudor monarch, through his daughter, Margaret Tudor, Queen of Scotland:

And here is her line of descent from Mary Boleyn, sister of Queen Anne Boleyn and daughter of Thomas Boleyn, Earl of Wiltshire and Ormond and Elizabeth Howard:

Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, have Boleyn blood twice over as they are descended from Mary Boleyn through their father, Charles, Prince of Wales and Duke of Cornwall, AND their late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales. Click here to read more about that.
Yes it’s true, our queen does have both Boleyn and Tudor blood, strange how things work out, because Anne Boleyn’s daughter Elizabeth 1st became queen something which Anne was determined would happen, then sadly she was disinherited when Anne went to the scaffold, a thought which must have caused her mortal anguish, she did become a great queen as we know against incredible odds, yet having no heirs her dynasty died out, but hundreds of years later, Anne’s sister Mary’s descendant in the shape of Queen Elizabeth 11 became queen, Anne’s line died out yet her sisters continued, when her mother Elizabeth Bowes Lyon became consort to her father George V she remarked, ‘the sword changed my life as quickly as it changed Anne Boleyn’s’, Anne of course being her aunt removed by many generations, and of course the queen is descended directly from Henry V11 the victor of Bosworth and founder of the Tudor dynasty, and his enigmatic queen Elizabeth of York, here in the UK were are in a fervour of patriotic royal excitement, I am going to Waltham Abbey Friday to attend a jubilee party, food is provided then I’ll be going to my friends street party which is only about a three minute walk away from me, I’m baking some cakes tonight to take with me and bottles of fizz, it’s a party you couldn’t come to the UK Claire but no doubt you will be watching it on television.
Fascinating! How lucky QEII is to have this genealogy available to her.
