She says “This lovely Anne Boleyn waxwork was made by very talented Emily Pooley. Emily’s beautiful waxwork of Anne is based on Hans Holbein sketch inscribed “Anne Boleyn, Queen of England, 2nd wife of Henry VIII, mother of Queen Elizabeth, was beheaded in London on 19 May 1536”. Waxwork is currently on display in Hever Castle as a part of “A Royal Romance” exhibition, from 1st March to 18th November 2012 in the Castle’s Long Gallery. The gown on Anne Boleyn’s wax figure is a replica of the real gown worn by Anne during her coronation.”
Is that how you imagine Anne to have looked?

Thanks for posting, Elliemarianna. I think I saw a couple of these on Facebook, but not them all.
I like it. But that is simply my opinion. I like how she did not make Anne into a beauty queen. Rather, she created a likeness similar to her known portraits. He face is not modern, which is nice. There is a certain elegance to the figure, especially in her red robes.
The placement of the wax work in Hever Castle was a nice touch. It gave some authenticity to the figure. God, I love Hever! Seeing these photos makes me want to go back so badly!

Wow, this is completely amazing. She did a wonderful job. It’s kind of how I picture Anne but not all the way, maybe if the nose was a little smaller then it’d be almost exactly how it is in my mind but despite that it’s beautifuly done. Good Job!
Has she done any other wax work like this regarding other wives?
• Grumble all you like, this is how it’s going to be.

Not beautiful?….
Anne was never described as beautiful by contemprery standards. As I see her, she had that Je ne sais pas, vibe..
Her charm wasn’t totally physical but a feeling, a look, that …errmmmm..essence that lifts a person from average to boot-knocking sexy. It’s not physical , it’s the whole package of intelligence, properity, missing words…but Anne’s appeal was above and beyond what H8 had seen before added to her denial of his favours…
She projected a whole image of not quite innocent sexyness(IMHO) which enthralled Henry.
It's always bunnies.

I personally don’t ‘see’ Anne like this. I think she was beautiful, just not by the standards of the day. Really though, her face doesn’t matter, she will always be a mystery. It’s her spirit, courage, honesty, intelligence and confidence that we love.

I know, but I always see Anne as someone beautiful or at the least very pretty. I agree with Olga, I see her with more dainty (smaller) features. I know she had this ‘je ne sais quoi’ about her and people, men especially, liked her due to her intelligence, charm, and wit but physically there had to be something there too. Right?

Beautiful?? Sorry but I don’t think Anne Boleyn is ever recorded as being described as such?? Now without a doubt she was intelligent, witty and courageous and somewhat attractive she married Henry did she not? We will never know for certain and we all have our own opinions as to how she looked and what is and isi’nt beautiful. This wax figure looks how I would imagine Anne when she became queen, towards the end of her life when the stress of the english court must have strained her looks and her spirit, not as a fresh damsel back from the french court. I personally don’t find her overly attractive but that does not mean that I don’t admire her, she showed a lot of strength and character in her life and as such she is a fascinating woman who still excites people long after her death. Whoever did this wax figure is very talented and I would love to see her interpretation of the other 5 wives.

Anne was described as beautiful… The French poet, Lancelot de Carles called her ‘beautiful and with an elegant figure’, Brantome remembered Anne Boleyn in his later years ‘as the fairest and most bewitching of all the lovely dames of the French court.’, A Venetian reporting what was known of her in Paris in 1528 described her as ‘very beautiful’.

You are right, It was’nt till after I posted that I realized I had made a little mistake on my information. The french poet Lancelet de carles did call her ‘beautiful and with a elegant figure’. As well the venetian diplomat Francesco Sanuto was quoted as describing her as not the most handsome with a swarthy complexion and eyes which are black and beautiful. I do think a lot of emphasis is placed on how she physically looked especially since the idea of beauty in tudor england was fair with blue eyes and a plump figure and how such a woman could entice the king etc. I don’t think she was beautiful in what was considered the norm at the time but rather she had what we would call now “sex appeal”. She was very different to the norm in England, she spoke fluent french, acted more french than english in her mannerisms and social skills, played the lute, knew how to dance, wore all the latest french fashions, was trim and showed off her figure starting new fashion trends in england. not forgetting to mention her whit, charm and intelligence, all these attributes combined made a striking impression on the court especially to henry.

And was possibly french in her expectations. Her beauty can’t be captured by dead wax, though her likeness can. Anne’s beauty was mobile, it flitted across her features, was expressed in every movement. She was a falcon in sparrow form. It was something indefinable, something alive, vibrant, laughing, free. As she is now.
