Oh no, we all know this here trust me. After Anne had Elizabeth (not the prince Henry wanted) I think that’s when everything started to go downhill, Henry started cheating and caring less and less about Anne. Then Anne got pregnant again and that didn’t go full term which added more fuel to the flame, and another failed pregnancy was it for him. He saw that it was the same situation with Anne as it was with Katherine, no sons just dead babies and a daughter. It’s not like it was her fault anyways because i’m sure if she had control of it she’d have 10 sons, as would Katherine. But Henry didn’t care, he then saw Jane who’s family was told to be very fertile and she was everything he wanted and needed in a new wife, she was soft spoken, she obeyed, and she didn’t back talk and stick up for herself like Anne did. So Henry had to find a way to be rid of Anne and thus from there Anne was already dead just not offically. I think it was more of Cromwell’s idea though to have Anne executed, he probably came up with the idea to dig up the ‘Anne cheating’ rumors and Anne being a witch and bewitching Henry and use it against her. Henry and everyone knew the people of England didn’t like Anne what so ever so that was used against her too. I don’t fully understand why they brought Anne’s brother into the equation, just because they hugged each other that meant they were incestuous? But that didn’t matter as long as they had people to lie for them then everything would work out. I think Anne was blind sided.

Hi!
The only reason I mention old Cromwell was because Wolsey had already been banned, and Cromwell hated Anne for being responsible. I thought it disgusting how Anne’s brother, George, was drawn into it also. Same with Mark Smeaton, tortured into a false confession, promised to be spared if he testified against her… guess the poor guy had no idea it would be too dangerous for the ‘hierarchy’ if he was allowed to live.
There ia site that is asking for Anne’s ‘pardon” … personally, I think the term should be exonerated, since she committed no actual crime.
Good to hear from you, and thank you for your reply 🙂

It’s awful the way people go about nowadays calling Anne a ‘wh*re’ when they have never even made any effort to research Anne and the extremity of the false accusations made about her ( I remember reading in Ives that she would have had to be in two places at once to have commited the adultery she was accused of).
I’m in my first year of uni and didn’t get to chose my flat mates this year……..and I happened to be placed with one of those extreme Anne Boleyn haters (we’ve all met them ) and she even went as far as to accuse me of being a ‘wh*re’ when I said that I thought Anne was an incredible intellegent and brave woman who was falsely accused. Apparently the only reason I defend her is because i’m as bad as her it would be laughable if it didn’t annoy me so much.

I think the reason George was brought into it was to make Anne seem even more despicable to the people. Adultery was bad, but incest was worse. Just part of the Henry/Cromwell smear campaign. Even people with a small amount of Tudor knowledge from history class in high school and who don’t know anything else will tell you that Anne committed incest and adultery and was beheaded for it. They know she had a ‘trial’ and was found guilty, so it all must be true. They don’t question it because it’s ‘history’. The smear campaign was certainly effective!

I know, Claire Louise, I hate when people think they can judge her when they haven’t took the time to research anything about her, If you reseacrh her and you still wanna judge then whatever as long as you took the time to consider all the facts. Alot of people have judged Anne due to the movie & book ‘The other Boleyn girl’ which is completely unfair and the way PG claims to know everything and anything about Anne doesn’t help the situation. And then people watch ‘The Tudors’ and judge by that and they do have a better portrayed Anne BUT judging purely on a show isn’t really acceptable – Take the time to read a little about the real Anne Boleyn and then judge and not before. It bothers me sooo much.

Claire Louise, tell them to throw the first stone. But tell them first the people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. And you’re not as bad as she is, you’re as good! It’s not always easy to defend those in whom you believe, but it will be worth it in the end for you’ll learn what loyalty to friends can sometimes cost. Take heart, Anne is not oblivious to your pains. 🙂

Oh and one more thing. Stay happy. To Anne haters, I would say “She’s way better than you lot sitting there hating away… She managed to forgive her enemies before she died. And you all? Still hating away. What a waste of time and energy.”
Amen to that!
"By daily proof you shall find me to be to you both loving and kind" Anne Boleyn

How absurd that your roomie should call you a ‘wh*re’ just because you admire Anne Boleyn. I, too, agree that Anne was intelligent and brave. Personally, I think the only so-called ‘crime’ she committed was that of wanting to be named Queen as the only condition of marrying Henry! In fact, for being falsely labeled a ‘wh*re’, history reveals that she wanted nothing to do with bedding with him, as she knew her sister Mary was already carrying Henry’s baby, and was of no further use to him.
In fact, I also read in historical books that Anne was very benevolent, and did much for charitable efforts in her day. Some ‘wh*re’ indeed! You should laugh in your roomie’s face; seems she has a lot of growing up to do.

Geez Claire-Louise you meet up with some really nasty people, don’t you? Your first year is almost over, right?
I don’t know which is worse, trying to talk to people who still believe Anne is a wh*re, or talking to people who have no clue who Anne was other than Henry VIII chopped off her head.
They need to read more history, obviously. Henry was not only known for having people’s heads lopped off, but also for setting the fires beneath some of the poor unfortunates who were burned at the stake.
And, had they known back then… the male is responsible for determining the gender of the child, so not having a son was hardly Anne’s fault.. it was Henry’s! 🙂

Yes, unfortunately, history has often been doctored to make things look better or worse than they really were.
Anne was set up from the outset, IMO…and so was George, as well as Mark Smeaton, and all the others condemned to die for the imaginary crime Cromwell and Henry concocted.
Smear campaigns are a treacherous thing.

Agreed! The movie ‘The Other Boleyn Girl’ was a farce…. purely intended to make Anne look like she actually suggested incest with George. Disgusting.
Some people only ‘read’ into history what they want to imagine.

Yep! this flat mate is the same person as the ‘friend’ I posted about who also says that Anne was the stupidest person in history! To be honest I never mention Anne in front of her, she just takes it upon herself to try and start an argument if she sees me with a book or whatever and I just sigh now and remind myself, as you say Sharon; that my first year will be over soon. On the plus side I have met two massive Anne Boleyn fans on my course and lots of people have asked if they can borrow my books since they became interested in Anne through watching ‘The Tudors’ and wanted to find out about the historic Anne.
And I know what you mean, but at least those who have no idea who she was give us the oppurtunity to educate them

Exactly, PG just wants to ruin Anne’s reputation all over again and it’s annoying. I am glad though in the movie they don’t actually have sex and it’s more sympathetic meaning Anne makes it seem like it’s her only choice even though she doesn’t want to do it which is still wrong to even think about doing that with your own blood but in the book PG made it sound like Anne & George wanted to have a sexual relationship (the part where all 3 Boleyn are in Mary & Anne’s room and Anne and George start practically making out) *shudders* Gross.
And to Juliane, your right. At least Anne could forgive the people who hurt her most and death with peace whereas people have nothing better to do then hate on her. And people say they don’t care about her but yet they take out the time in their lives to comment and hate on her…makes alot of sense right?
