I've been wondering how Anne would have pronounced her surname.  Bo-lin, Bullen, B'lin Bo-lain?  What do you think? Confused

I pronounce it `Bull-in`. My French educated children say `Bo-lain`.

It's always bunnies.

I tend towards B'lin myself.

As for Anne herself, she sometimes signed her name 'Bullen' if I'm not mistaken, so it may be that she pronounced it then same way?

If I remember correctly her last name used to be spelled Bullen, but she changed it to the French spelling Boleyn before she became Queen. I usually pronounce it either B'lin or Bo'lin depending on how fast I'm talking. It all depends on your accent though, I'm Southern American so I'm probably saying wrong lol.

I pronounce it Bo-lin…..I'm English so maybe that's the English way, who knows?!

Anne may have pronounced it different anyway because of her French accent, all my history teachers always said Bo-lin
I suppose it's gonna sound different purely because of our own accents 🙂

I've always said Bo-LIN, or Buh-LIN or B'lin if I'm talking fast. However, yes, Anne's family originally spelled their last name “Bullen” and then her father Thomas Boleyn changed it to “Boleyn” to sound more elegant and French. The surname means that ancestors came from Boulogne, on the French Channel. Also, when Anne lived, spelling was very loose (as was pronunciation, due to people pronouncing it different ways to make it sound, for example, more French, English, Italian, etc.). Some alternate spellings other than Boleyn and Bullen are: Bulein, Bullan, Bulloyne, Bouleyne, Bulleyn, Bollen, Bullin, Bullant, Bullent, Bullene, Boullin, Boleigne, and Bolina. Anway…that became longer than I meant it to…but that's how I pronounce Boleyn. It's beautiful any way you pronounce it!

Here in England we pronounce is Buh-LIN with the “Buh” being like the phonetic way you teach kids the letter “b”.

I tend to pronounce it Buh-LIN too, though it can change sometimes to Bo-LIN.  But I think I prefer Buh-LIN better because I just realised that if you put a d and an a on the end of it you'd get almost the exact phonetic pronunciation of my name!  How cool is that?!!!!!

I think if I'm talking fast, it comes out 'buh LIN', and if I slow down a little, it's 'bo LIN'

I'd guess the Spanish pronunciation might be similar to Italian, Anna Bolena?

I pronouce it as Buh Lin.  And like others if i'm talking faster it comes out as B'lin. I don't like it pronouced Bo Lin because it sounds dull and B'Lin has a spice to it .
