At a quick glance at H8, I would say (to use the language of my place of birth) that he was “off his rocker” but definitely pushed by the people around him. 6 wives in 38 years and the first lasted almost 24 so the other 5 had 14 years between them although we know some lasted “slightly longer” than others. And the excuses made to get rid of them!!!!!!
Known as “Bluff King Hal” question is “who called the bluff”?
not all his dogs were barking, thats for sure, as we say here or maybe a few fries short of a Happy Meal???
There was something more going on with him though, I think.
Possible manic Depressive? I lived with one for a while and the behaviour would be somewhat in that personality type.
Just things like his reclusive time after Jane Seymour's death and after his accident in January 1536, he had a severe personality change.
If it was not this, then it would be something else?

Yes, Henry definitely had a mental instability problem going on. As he aged, he had bouts of depression. He was in more physical pain than many people could or should have to tolerate. That intolerable pain must have reeked havoc on on his mind. He was a touch paranoid. Then there is the fall he took at the joust. It would be surprising after a 2 hour period of being unconscious that he would get up and walk away unscathed. Impossible it seems.
As for when he was young and healthy…There was something missing in Henry. Something in his make up. Sociopath, maybe? He was able to make people love him, but he never seemed to be able to give himself totally to them. He would turn on a dime. When he was done with them he turned to solid ice. Something not right about that!

It’s called “insidethe body of Henry V111.” I found it quite interesting, I must say.
