When Eddy was born, we all know Henry breathed a deep sigh of relief.
However what I find very strange is that Eddy wasn’t given the title of Prince of Wales, at his christening. Why?
Mary we know held it for years but once she was bastardized that was it she was simply known as Lady Mary. Elizabeth was granted the title at her birth and again once she too was bastardized she was simply known as Lady Elizabeth.

Was Elizabeth given the title at birth? That would be an odd thing to do given that Henry still expected to have sons at that time. I thought she was just “Princess Elizabeth”, not the Princess of Wales?
Actually Gill you could be right. I don’t think Elizabeth was named as Princess of Wales. So my bad, slap on the wrist for me. She was named heiress presumptive however. Still it doesn’t answer the question to why Edward wasn’t named as Prince of Wales at birth?
Perhaps Henry thought that by naming Edward as Prince of Wales, he would know that it would be expected in time Edward to go off the Ludlow to rule and he couldn’t bear the thought of that.

Mary was never given the title of Prince of Wales either, but she presided in name only on the Council of Wales and the Marches. She was sent to Ludlow in 1525. Stayed for three years. She was never vested with the title of Princess of Wales but she was given all the perogatives that go with the title. Many called her the Princess of Wales even though she was never actually vested. When she returns to England, it is 1528 and there is a storm brewing.
Elizabeth was named heiress presumptive. Mary was pronounced illegitimate.
At his christening, Edward was vested as Earl of Chester and Duke of Cornwall.
Elizabeth was illegitimate.

True Sharon but why was he never given the title of Prince of Wales? If memory serves when Henry was married to AOC, when asked by one of her maids in waiting about the King’s bedtime frolics, AOC was supposed to have said, The King kisses me goodnight every evening, and in the morning he kisses me, is that enough? The maid is supposed to have shook her head and said I fear it will be a long time till we have a Duke of York. which kind of implies it was taken forgranted that Eddy was Prince of Wales although not actually been invested as such. Like you say Sharon given all the privilages but not the actual title.
Personally I would have thought that Henry would have wanted to proclaim to the world that at last he had a Prince of Wales.
