Hi all,
I was first introduced to the Tudors while I was working at the Los Angeles International Airport for the Lufthansa check in counter (best airline in the world imo! lol). I was done reading my novel and didn't know what to read next. So, I went to the book store in the airport and discovered an interesting hard bound book with a lady that was dressed in 16th century style. I was curious so I read what it was about. The story was called Innocent Traitor and it was about the Lady Jane Grey. Through it, I rediscovered some people that I have heard about such as Elizabeth and read about many more that I had never heard of before. LOVED the book and demanded that my sister read it as well. She chuckled at me and agreed to read it which promptly got her hooked on this amazing and harsh part of history. Shortly after we had finished the book, my sister happened across The Tudors TV series and ever since then we have been buying and reading everything Tudor!
I hope to one day acquire a custom made Tudor period gown and jewelry and make my way to London for the anniversary of Anne Boleyn's death. It will be a dream come true! Would also be curious to do more research on my own history as apparently I go back to King James II of Scotland… Which I traced through the family lines which they have Plantagenet blood… which means I am very distantly related to King Henry VIII.
Anyone else drink a bit of wine while watching The Tudors?? I hope to get a Tudor style wine glass (or goblet) to complete the feeling. haha

Welcome KimJ. I love all things Tudor, too. Innocent Traitor is one of the best historical fiction books ever written, and it is a great exploration of Jane's life.
What's it like working at an airport? Must be exciting and you must meet some interesting people.
Best!

Well, you meet a lot of people. I met Lisa Kudrow and this really handsome man (forget his name, but he played “Danny” on Grey's Anatomy) when they flew to Ireland to film P.S. I Love You. Paris Hilton, ummm Seal, ….. some other people. Not new to celebrities though as they filmed 90210, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Not Another Teen Movie, She's All That (and more movies) at Torrance High School (I went there about 10 years ago) as well as other movies such as American Beauty at South Torrance High School (odd seeing the Spartan logo during the gym seen as I thought it amusing that I had played basketball on the same court! lol). Also go to see and meet some of the cast from The O.C. (blond haired actor …I think his character name was Ben. He was really sweet!). They took over Imperial Highway when they were filming Live Free Die Hard. I was really annoyed as I had to find a different way to get to the airport!! My fav. actor would have to be Seth Green. I would hang out with him between takes as they filmed Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Hilarious and down to earth although a bit paranoid. He also has white eyelashes! He thought it was hilarious that they always have to put mascara on him so that you can see his eyelashes! HAHA
At any rate, yes the airport was a lot of fun, but now I am a registered veterinary technician. Currently trying to get a job at a top notch specialty hospital down in San Diego called the Veterinary Specialty Hospital. It is affiliated with UC Davis and is just AMAZING! Three story building with every specialist and diagnostic equipment you will ever need! I had my working interview yesterday and am really hoping that they select me!
I agree on Innocent Traitor! Was a very well written book that got me hooked on all things Tudor!
Hi KimJ,
Welcome to the AB Files, it's great to “meet” you!
I haven't read “Innocent Traitor” but it's on my list of “to read” so I really must get round to it. I always find that the best books are the ones you read by accident and that you've never heard of before.
I was lucky enough to visit the Tower of London on the 19th May this year with the AB Experience and we laid flowers on her tile, it was a very moving experience, and then I got to wear my Anne dress at Hever and that was fantastic, I felt like a queen! It's funny how just dressing in Tudor costume can immediately change the way you feel.
I too enjoy a glass of wine when watching The Tudors, usually a good Spanish Rioja – yum! That's a great idea about Tudor wine glasses and perhaps I ought to put my dress on too!
Good luck with your job interview, let us know how you get on x

Will let you all know when I find out in two weeks or so if this hospital decides to hire me. I really hope that they do!
My heart did break for Lady Jane Grey. It also made me furious with Mary for being so selfish as to murder an innocent girl (who had a very hard upbringing to begin with) just so she can wed!! It also made me respect Jane and just be in awe of her. Having a person so very young behaving as though she had lived her life and was ready to die with dignity and honor. Unbelievable!
Right now I am reading The Secret Diary of Anne Boleyn. About half way through it. I like it so far! Listening to Chopin as I read. Seems to help me ignore random noises I hear (being in the city) and feel calm and just read. Seems like it is working great as I started the book just last night! lol
