hello everybody
I am a swedish fan of Tudor history.
I live in southern Sweden
I have always been intrested in english history especially Tudor and elizabethan history and the time of Jane austen. I visited England in 1979 and 2003.
As an historian and family researcher one has to be fascinated by Henry VIII and Elizabeth I and their time. A man with 6 wives in those days must have been remarkable ;);). I think it especially intresting to compare Henry and what he did to his swedish contemparary.
the swedish king Gustaf Eriksson Vasa 1496-1560 who ruled sweden 1523-1560 (and the time of his sons 1560-1611). There are several important similarities an also very important differences between them. The differences between Sweden and England in those days was also great.
Here in sweden we are now in on season 3 of the Tudors. i have seen some episodes of season 1,2, and 3 but not the whole series.
I think part of it is intresting at the same time the discepancies are rather annoying. It is very intresting to read all the reviews of litterature about Hnery and his wifes on this site. it is difficult or almost impossible to get hold of these books from swedish libraries. I have bought David Starkeys book on Elizabeth I and Antona Frasers book on Henrys VII six wifes but that is almost the only books available in libraries too. So if I shall be able to read some more I have to buy them and that is a bit expensive.
I am looking forward to discuss with you all.

The Vasa ship sank in 1628 . it was build on the order of king Gustaf II Adolf the grandson of gustaf eriksson Vasa.the ship was wrongly build to much cannons and to little ballast. it became top heavy and sank near the center of Stockholm on its maiden voyage.
it would have been used in the war against Poland (ruled by another grandson of Gustaf Vasa the catholic king Sigismund).
the Vasa Museum in Stockholmis a must see for anyone intresting in history.
Hi Anna-Karin,
Welcome to the AB Files, it's great to have you on here. I did some Swedish history as part of the European History part of my A Level history at school but I'm afraid that I'm rather rusty on it now, my poor brain just can't retain it all!
Season 4 of The Tudors is airing in the States at the moment so you're not far behind in Sweden. I know what you mean about the discrepancies, some are so annoying and make me cringe but I must admit to loving the show and loving JRM as Henry, he really does help you to understand Henry's actions and feelings.
I often buy books second hand from places like Amazon marketplace but books are my downfall and I do seem to spend a small fortune on them!
Anyway, welcome!
