After much hesitation (I'm ever so bad at self introductions), I compiiled this for the Anne Boleyn Fellowship. I'm afraid that, a few days and many cover letters later, I really do not have the stomach for a new self intro. So…it was copy and paste. I apologise for the complete lack of originality and hope most of you have not already seen this:
I'm a Historian whom necessity has stuck in a mundane life. I have
been trying to escape said mundane life for years. I will not drag you
through the tedium of further details.
Instead, I'll talk about the passions that keep me alive:
History. Special mention to strong exceptional women. Elizabeth I is
the idol about whom I wrote 400 pages of Masters thesis. I'm sure you
can all see how I came to admire Anne Boleyn. Mother and daughter had a
lot of character traits in common.
DSLR Photography and digital manipulation. My artistic side needs an
outlet. And flickr awards make wonderful self-confidence boosters.
All things computer aided design and movie editing. Adobe ought to
love me, given the fact that I've entertained a relationship with their
software for over 8 years.
Music. Of many genres, so long as it is epic, uplifting and not
simple: Medieval, Renaissance, Classical, some pop, some dance music
(especially the complex layered tracks).
Cinema. Besides History, this is the topic I have the most knowledge about.
The Internet. I'm working of desiging my own website.
Kundalini Yoga. The mother of all yoga.
Helping disadvantaged people and campaigning against injustice.
Independence. As in absolute freedom. My goal in life.

I actually didn't see any of the rioting. I live in a quiet, residential part of London. I have to walk twenty minutes to find shops. The risk of encountering viloence was nearly nil. I heard people screaming and running past my apartment block during the night of Monday to Tuesday. I was on Twitter, reading the reactions of those who were closer to the hot spots.
40 mins walk away from me, shops got torched to the ground.
There has been a very tense atmosphere in the UK for about a year (no jobs, no hope, nowhere to turn for help). The riots added to the anxiety that we all feel.
I used to love living here – it was, for a long time, the most exciting city in Europe. And the most free too. Now, people burn their own communities and our rulers threaten our civil liberties. For the first time, I'm finding it hard to have any faith in the future.
Every day, I escape on my time machine, destination 16th century.
