Hi everyone, I'm new around here. Sorry if this post is in the wrong place, I wasn't quite sure where to put it. I need some help and I figured you would know best 🙂
Being an Anne fan, I've decided to go as her to a fancy dress party in March. My problem is costume. I have no idea where I can get a Tudor dress. I haven't looked in fancy dress shops yet, but my previous experience of them is that the dresses are often ill-fitting and massive. I want to be as authentic as my budget will allow!
I need a Tudor dress by March. I live in the UK. Can anyone help me out with suggestions? I'm really stuck!

Hey Beth, welcome to the forum!
Going as Anne to a fancy dress party would be so cool! Sorry, I don't really know how to help with your costume but I think a lot of people end up getting theirs made especially, so if you know someone who has a sewing machine try them!
Good luck with your costume hunting and if you do end up going as Anne, post pictures – we'd love to see what you come up with!

Hi Beth,
Welcome to the AB Files!
I'm sorry that you're having problems with finding a dress. Kris, who is making our \”The Tudors\” dresses is also going to be making more traditional Anne Boleyn dresses but I'm not sure she would be able to fit into your time scale. We're aiming to launch the first dress in March. I will certainly ask her though and then get back to you. Was it one like the dress worn in the portrait in the top bar of the site, our logo bar?
What date is your fancy dress party and do you have a budget in mind? Email me at claire@theanneboleynfiles.com if you don't want to discuss it here.

Hi,
We don't know the date yet, we just know it'll be in March sometime. I think I've found something for the party for now, but I'd love a proper dress anyway just to parade around in! (Any excuse!) I'll definitely consider buying a traditional dress from here 🙂 I've already ordered the traditional French hood.
I found this Gothic dress for the top half and my Mum has a long black skirt that I can puff out for the shape.

I'm just waiting for them to get back to me about shipping to the UK.
That is the portrait I'm using as my basis, yes. She definitely started the 'black is chic' trend, didn't she? 🙂
Hi Beth,
I'll email you when Kris gives me the dispatch date for your order, she usually gets them made in just a few days.
I'm glad that you've found something for your party. I think we'll be launching the Marquess of Pembroke crimson velvet dress by mid March and then following it up with the Execution dress, then the others. Kris is intending to do more traditional gowns too though. I agree with you about the \”black is chic\” trend. I was reading what Ives says about Anne's gowns and the material she order and it was mostly black with some russet and green too.

I'm having the crimson one made to wear at Hever on the Anne Boleyn Experience – I can pretend to be Anne lol!
The book by Eric Ives is by far the best book on Anne Boleyn and what I love about it is the fact that he'll quote someone or relate a specific event and then he will tell you exactly what primary source he got that from so that you can look it up yourself and understand why he came to that conclusion. Excellent book!
