Has anyone else seen this film?
I watched it for the first time this past may 19(for obvious reasons) 7 i thought it was excellent. genevieve bujold did a terrific job as anne, especially in capturing anne's wit.
the only big complaint i had was from a seen in the beginning when henry percy asks anne if shes a virgin & she flatly says \”no\”
but the film overall is definitely worth watching-i loved it!

I loved that film. And you're right Genevieve Bujold did an outstanding job. I loved it when she started in on the Cardinal in front of the King, and kept sniffing at her pomander as if something offensively smelly was on the Cardinal..brilliant.

I just bought this! And I got it as a double set with the Glenda Jackson/Vanessa Redgrave Mary, Queen of Scots, too. All for $20 at Barnes & Noble! I like that it took Anne so long to fall in love with him, but thought it sad when she realized that she'd fallen in love with him and he'd fallen out of love with her. I also thought the execution scenes in both movies were rushed, but they were made back in 1969 and 1971, respectively, so maybe that's why.

I haven't seen Anne of a Thousand Days in years. It is my favorite portrayal of Anne and Henry. (with the exception of Natalie Dormer & jonathan Reyes-Meyers, of course) I wish Anne had actually been able to tell Henry off at the end like Genevieve did.
I watch Mary, Queen of Scotts everytime it's on tv. Very entertaining.

I love Genevieve Bujold as Anne. She looks so doll-like and innocent, then she opens her mouth and has such a charming, intelligent way of speaking. It's such a contrast but it works so well. And of course I adore the scene in the Tower where she tells Henry exactly what he ought to hear!
One thing I don't like about this movie (and some others too) is the way Mary Boleyn is portrayed as the ugly, bitter sister. It makes it seem unlikely that she would have been capable of attracting the King before Anne. At least 'The Tudors' and 'The Other Boleyn Girl' put the sisters on more equal footing.

This is my favourite Anne movie, bar none. Genevieve is my ultimate Anne. I just ignore the slightly feminist rant at the end, I doubt the real Anne would ever had said any such thing. But other than that, it is superb. The Costumes are lush, too.

Perhaps Mary was rather bitter – she had a relationship with the king, perhaps as a result of family pressure, only to see his interest fail and for him to then fall for her sister, who was clever enough to get marriage. I imagine that would cause a lot of tension between Mary and the rest of the family.

Absolutely adore this movie, and I was sooooo happy when it was finally released on dvd a couple of years ago. I agree with you, Impish Impulse that the execution scene was a little rushed, but I liked the way the film finished with a shot of the toddler Elizabeth and Anne's prophetic words that HER Elizabeth would be Queen, and then her blood would have been well spent. (Words to that effect anyway). Brings a tear to my eye every time.
Don't know if its true or not, but I read somewhere that Sid James wore some of Richard Burton's costumes in Carry on Henry, which was made the following year.

I happen to love the scene where Anne tells Henry Elizabeth will be Queen. Feminist rant? Had Henry given Anne a chance to speak her mind, I believe she would have said something very similar. She wasn't one to keep her mouth shut when she felt something strongly. She never kept her thoughts from Henry. Speaking her mind is what got Anne into trouble in the first place.
Richard Burton was an excellent Henry.

Genevieve Bujold is brillant as Anne. I cannot believe she did not win an Oscar for her portrayl. The French accent was a nice touch.
There are some areas of the film I find annoying, but overall , one of the best dramatisations of Anne's life, and her relationship with Henry.

She's French-Canadian so that's probably her own and not used for the film.
I know that Bujold is French-Canadian; however, most interpretations of Anne have her speaking with an English accent. What I meant is, rather than have Bujold work with a vocal coach to speak with an English accent, they allowed her to keep her own French accent. I should have clarified myself better!

I realize this is a little late but I just wanted to say, this is my favorite Anne movie by faaaar and probably my first or second favorite Tudor movie!!! I thought it was amazing and I simply loved Bujold as Anne. At first I didn't imagine her to look quite like that, but she grew on me, and I thought she acted the part of our Anne perfectly.

Sorry, I didn't mean to attack you.
That's one thing that grates with me too…Anne grew up in French speaking courts so it should be obvious her accent was French.
Even though we speak English at home, the English my 3 learn at school has a French-Quebecois accent. I correct them because it sounds “wrong” to me. Even though my Francophone friends think thier English is okay.
It's always bunnies.

Anyanka, you did not attack me. I realized after your post, that I should have been more clear in my post. One of my biggest issues with writing is being more explicit about my ideas. No worries, okay?

Because it got such rave reviews on here, I just watched it. First of all, Richard Burton as Henry=brilliant! I had a hard time wrapping my head around Bujold as Anne at first, but the minute she opened her mouth and started speaking, I was sucked in.
I do have a couple of peeves: Mary Boleyn might have been bitter that her position was “usurped” by Anne, so to speak, but I do NOT believe she was THAT unattractive or old!! Henry would NEVER have taken a woman who was that unattractive as his mistress (Jane Seymour excluded).
I realize that KoA was older when the whole Anne brew-ha-ha started, but I feel like they intentionally cast a woman who was not so attractive and every time she came on screen I just wanted to pluck her eyebrows! Come on now, people, KoA was one of the most beautiful women in Europe at one time, and while I'm sure her looks had waned somewhat, she was probably still fairly attractive for her age even when Anne came on the scene.
