Thank you Anyanka. I get that impression too, as it goes. 2 very stubborn woman bumping heads over the matter of religion must have been a sight and sound worth seeing and hearing.
I wonder where they got their stubborn behaviour from?
I know that Mary and Eddy banged heads together over the matter of religion a few times, but to be honest I don’t think Eddy had inherited his father’s stubborn pride, or at least it wasn’t evident at that time. Maybe if he had lived longer it might have come out more. But for the most part save for a few spats with Eddy over her defiant behaviour (as it would have been seen by Eddy’s councillors) most of the time she argued the toss with Eddy’s reps. Who just simply bullied her anyway just making her dig her heels in all the more. In one of tghe Elizabeth films I think it was the The Virgin Queen with Anne Marie Duff (Who played a very good Elizabeth. But no one can ever top Glenda Jackson) Anne Marie (Elizabeth) said “The Protestant religion needs to be excepted by persuasion not purges, there is just one Jesus Christ everything else is just trifles” and that to be honest is the whole point. Mary couldn’t or wouldn’t see it though which caused her no end of problems.
