I read it forever ago too, really need to re-read it again….
I like Jean Plaidy as an historical novelist, even though she was writing ages ago and new facts and theories have emerged since then, she always stuck to the facts. She's one of the few historical novelists that I consistently enjoy. So keep reading – you won't end up in a frustrated rage because of her (unlike some other novelists I could mention….)

It was the first grown up book I bought, when I was about 12 I think. It's still on my bookshelves and has been re-read a lot. The only thing to remember is that it was written in the 1950s and research has moved on since then but it's as historically accurate as possible for the time. She wrote the queens of England series, which were first-person fiction in the 1980s/90s. Lady in the Tower and Rose Without a Thorn are Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard's stories. Another Anne Boleyn novel from the mid-20th Century you might enjoy is Norah Lofts' The Concubine.

I did actually love this book. I enjoyed the way that Anne was presented in a more human way and not the same sort of uber villainess that seems to have become the trend since PG's TOBG. For example, there are times where she even feels concerned for KOA's welfare but keeps the thoughts to herself.
Also there are some excellent pieces of writing that set about to explain Anne's actions. For example, the novel focuses early on at Anne's heartbreak with Henry Percy. There is a line that says something like 'she had already expereinced love and found it bitter, she never wanted to feel that again'. Sorry if I've mis-quoted but basically it gives an explanation for Anne then seeking the best marriage she could get even though she despised Henry at the beginning of the book.
