I haven't actaully seen many films about the Tudors, Henry etc.

From my memory I have seen The Tudors (the series), The Other Boleyn Girl, Elizabeth (both films), The one with Ray Winstone in (on ITV) and i'm sure I saw another one on ITV where Anne actually slept with her brother but can't remember anything about it. I seem to remember it was pretty rubbish anyway!

I'm just in the process of getting Anne of the Thousand Days as that seems to be popular

Anyway, any others you can suggest for me to watch? Thanks!

Try 'Elizabeth R' – staring Glenda Jackson. The modern DVD set is from an old BBC TV series from the 1970s – but the performance of Elizabeth remains electrifying. Glenda Jackson portrays her from teenager through to old age, with the help of some very clever make-up and superb acting skills. Old but great.

I liked David Starkey's The Wives of Henry VIII (I have it on DVD), even though he seems least sympathetic to Anne, and believes Katharine of Aragon lied about consummating her marriage to Arthur. He presents Jane pretty neutrally; courageous in defense of her beliefs, but hardly a doormat, as she'd had no qualms about bringing down her mistress (Anne) and having \”stepped to her throne, pretty coolly, through her blood.\” He presents Anne of Cleves sympathetically and I actually got a little teary at the scene of Katheryn Howard in the Tower, abandoned by friends and family alike. He made a nice correlation between the teen-aged Katheryn endlessly practicing dance steps so she would make a good impression, to her spending her last hours practicing kneeling and putting her head on the block to make a good final impression. The actress did a nice job of going from giggly, giddy teen to expressing an understated look of devastation as she faced death. He presents Katherine Parr positively as well, being good with Henry's children and having a mind of her own. All in all, it's a good series.

I would agree with sarah about Glenda Jackson and I also really enjoyed Elizabeth I with Helen Mirren and The Virgin Queen with Anne Marie Duff both of those are available on DVD an dare much more accurate than the Cate Blanchett movies.

I also agree with Impish_Impulse, you can't go wrong with David Starkey.

Thanks to Claire's recommendations I watched The Virgin Queen and Elizabeth I.  I was enthralled with the Virgin Queen and I would definately say it is a MUST SEE!!

Helen Mirren was unbelievably as Elizabeth and I felt portreyed a side of her we rarely see.

I recently watched Anne of a Thousand Days and thought it was very good! (considering how long ago it was made!) I think the actress who played Anne was amazing and captured her french upbringing..

I have become quite a junkie and found that I can get many of these through my county libraries and have been burning through them!!

Henry VIII starring Ray Winstone was pretty good too..He looked much more like the Henry I pictured in my mind and Anne is played by Helena Bonham Carter.. Definately worth checking out!!

I am gonna check out David Starkey's works now, thanks to you all!!  I have been making lists of books and movies and BOY it keeps getting bigger and bigger no matter how many I cross off!
