Has anyone else read Queens Consort by Lisa Hilton? It takes a look at every queen of England during the medieval period. Hilton portrays each queen’s personal life, politics, patronage, parenting style, religion, etc. Admittedly, the book inevitably spends a lot of time explaining what went on with the kings and other men in their lives, but I learned a lot of fascinating material about some extraordinary women with whom I was barely familiar.

That’s on my list too. She was on the Real White Queen documentary recently and she seemed very interesting. I take it there is some Margaret of Anjou in there, she is a Queen I am looking forward to reading about.

Yes, there’s a chapter on every single queen consort to sit on the throne during the medieval period. I treated myself to it as a reward for getting through a really tough time.

I have this little gem. A long time ago someone mentioned they had bought Helen Castor’s She Wolves, which covered all the queens up to Elizabeth I. I went in search of it on Amazon but I ended up buying Queens Consort instead. I refer to it quite a bit.
