I've just seen The Tudors Season 4 poster – see http://tinyurl.com/yk6nqm3 and it has Henry surrounded by his six wives all looking a bit see through and ghostly. I gather from this that the rumours about Anne Boleyn returning in some kind of dream sequence are true. Do you think that as he died (which I assume he'll do at the end of the season) that he will be haunted by his wives and what he did to them?
Other thoughts on the poster:-
- It says at the top “Jonathan Rhys Meyers is King Henry 8″ is that how he is referred to in the US? Is he Henry 8 rather than Henry VIII? Henry Eight rather than Eighth?
- Jane Seymour hasn't got much on and even Anne of Cleves has got a “come hither” look on her face!!
- They've made JRM slightly grey haired but he's still way “fitter” than the real Henry was by this time!
We were discussing how this is the final season of “The Tudors” on Facebook and someone said that they thought it should carry on into Edward's reign etc etc. but then Barb pointed out:-
“There's the messy issue of Lady Jane Grey and Mary Queen of Scots, neither of whom can exist in this TV Tudor era because Henry VIII's two sisters became a composite character (Princess Margaret) who died soon after marrying Charles Brandon.”
How funny! The writers wrote them out of existence!!
Any thoughts on the poster and the upcoming season?

I've seen that poster.. I don't know if it was for the US or UK though.. On the cover of my tudors DVD, it says King Henry 8..
As I commented on FB, Henry Cavill should be in the poster. I'm glad Anne and the other wives are included, but he still needs to be there.. 🙂
It would be nice if they continued with Edward's reign, but they did cut important figures out, and it would be a bit messy to bring them back.

I started to protest that my DVD cases don't say “Henry 8”, but then I pulled them out to look, and lo and behold, they do say “Henry 8”. I had never noticed that before and now it's going to bug me constantly.
Hmm, any word on whether they're going to kill off Brandon, since IRL he died about a year and a half before Henry?

I know! Miss Prim & Proper Seymour is looking anything but prim and proper!! Yes, Anne of C is looking very cheeky. The only one who is looking normal is Catherine Howard and yet she was such a seductress in S3 – didn't you think that H was a bit stupid if he could think she was innocent and pure, the way that she kept lifting her skirt lol!!

Omg, what happened with Anna of Claves? LOL. She looks like a teen girl in the prom saying “come and get me baby”
Seriously, she doesn’t look like anna of claves AT ALL. If I didn´t know who was she I probably would conclude that she might be the sexy and young Katherine Howard. This last one, in this pic, looks ok for her char (I mean, I think she have a weird face, with her long forehead and separate eyebrows, not so beautiful to play Katherine H., although in that pic she is pretty indeed)
Anne B. is very sexy, but she was charming, so it´s not weird as seeing Anna C. as “Britney Spears poser”.
Katherine of Aragon it´s ok, very “catholic queen” and Jane is too naughty there to the “sweet” third wife.
Katherine Parr – is it she? – looks very nice.
Despite the weird view of anna of claves as a sexy naughty girl I do like this poster. In regard of Henry I never really thought they would do better than put J. with some grey beard and hair. Honestly, would be pretty weird seeing him as the fat and old Henry VIII and for sure the ppl behind The Tudors really don´t want to lose those stupid (can I say it here?) female fans that just watch this series to see the “hot” J. playing the king.
A rose is wild, a rose is free, and who would know better than me?

I imagine they put Henry 8 because they think people are too stupid to understand what Henry VIII is. Very sad really!

Claire, we can only hope that as Henry lay dying, all of his dead wives were there to haunt him. And I hope he thought he was in hell. As for the show…that would be a nice touch to see them all surrounding him.
History tells us his last words were, “Monks….Monks….Monks.” Maybe all the priests he put out in the cold when he dissolved the monasteries were lecturing him. Serve him right.
How unfortunate is it that they put Henry 8 on that poster? The dumbing down of America. I wonder if Roman Numerals are still taught in our schools?
BTW, I'm thrilled that they didn't make JRM fat. I know he did gain some weight for the part. I don't think I'd want to see him fat and old looking. Meyers has captured Henry's personality and that is more than enough for me to get a handle on. The whole personality and fat, pus-filled old man would be more than I would want to deal with. And besides, it's a movie and I like looking at JRM just as he is. A touch of gray is just right.

I don't recall roman numerals being taught when I was in school all those years ago (well, at least not in any major way!) and if it weren't for European royalty I'd probably still be pretty clueless – so the dumbing down of society as a whole is no new thing!
In regards to the poster it just looks naff and as you read it, it doesn't sound right in your head. Even writing 'King Henry the Eighth' would have been better.

we had half an hour each week dedicated just to Roman history in year 7 (the first year of high school). I must admit I found it rather boring, would probably find it interesting now i'm older and actually interested in history. Don't think it helped the teacher was so old he could have been from the Roman era!
