Thursday afternoon I decided I wanted to read a book about Anne Boleyn. So I walked up to the local library, and browsed the shelves for a biography of Anne. Finally I found The Six Wives of Henry VIII by Alison Weir and checked it out. I'm really enjoying it so far. I'm still on Katherine of Aragon. In fact, I'm just getting to her marriage to Henry VIII. I've already learned some thing I didn't know before. I can't wait to read about the others. Anyway, I've been thinking about what I'm going to read after I'm done with this book. I already know I want to read Alison Weir's new book, The Lady in the Tower. That's going on my Christmas list. I'd also like to read Eric Ives' book, The Life and Death of Anne Boleyn. I'd like some suggestions on other informative books on Anne or the Tudor period. Any recommendation is appreciated. I want to learn everything I can about this period in English history.
When the legend becomes fact, print the legend.
Here are a few ideas:-
\”The Six Wives of Henry VIII\” by David Loades and also the David Starkey one
\”1536: The Year that Changed Henry VIII\” by Suzannah Lispcomb
\”The Reign of Henry VIII\” by David Starkey
\”Elizabeth\” by David Starkey
\”Mary Tudor\” by Linda Porter
\”The Sisters Who Would Be Queen\” by Leanda de Lisle – about Lady Jane Grey and her sisters
\”Lady Jane Grey: A Tudor Mystery\” by Eric Ives
\”Elizabeth's Women\” by Tracy Borman
\”Henry VIII\” by J J Scarisbrick
\”England Under the Tudors\” G R Elton

A few I thought of…
Carolly Erickson's and Norah Loft's bios on Anne (I read all the ones I could get, to compare the various view points and come to my own conclusions).
Divorced, Beheaded, Survived: A Feminist Reinterpretation of the Wives of Henry VIII – by Karen Lindsey
Granted, this is after Henry's reign, but still a great book about the life and times (everyday people) of Elizabeth's reign, if you are interested: Everyday Life in Elizabethan England – Liza Picard. Really fascinating info about medicine, life and death, food, etc.
I'll have to go check my book shelf and see if I have any more to add!
