I’m not sure where to post this, so here goes, anyway.
Just finished watching several hours of a BBC Doc, here in USA, hosted by David Starkey. I enjoyed it very much; thought it was well produced. Lots of costumes, etc. which I enjoyed since I’ll never be able to visit UK and see the many views of castles, palaces, etc.
So, I’ll list these You Tube LINKS and hope it isn’t inappropreate. I think these are in the correct order of the events, if not forgive me.

I hope that some of you will enjoy these as much as I. In the US we have less opportunity to view such productions than those of you living in the UK.
These videos concern the life and reign of Queen Elizabeth I.

Thanks so much for posting these. I’m a big Youtube documentary fan. I think I’ve seen these, and there is a book by David Starkey on Elizabeth, called “Elizabeth: Struggle for the Throne”.
The documentary and book were both very good, I thought anyway. David Starkey’s one of my fave historians on the Tudors.

Katie and Sharon — Sure glad to know that what I posted didn’t screw up the web site. I don’t normally see videos posted here like that. Anyway, I really enjoyed these. And I have also watched other YouTube videos today, too cold to be outdoors, so…… Some dramatic movies about Mary QoS and started the 2+ hour production of King Richard II by Shakespeare. Don’t care too much for the old English used in the video, but love the scenic production. I too, love YouTube, and Katie, living in the US, we have DirecTV which offers internet YouTube on our 55″ HDTV; which really helps in our viewing experience.

Thanks for sharing. I shall have to watch these sometime this week. I also adore Starkey. While I don’t always agree with him, he does know his history, and makes very interesting tv. He is a self-proclaimed “media tart!” His book on Elizabeth is excellent and one of my favourites. It was one of the first “adult” books my Mum bought me. I devoured it in a day! Monarchy is also good. The book and DVD work well together. I also love Mind of a Tyrant, which use to be avaliable on Youtube.

Starkey certainly is an excellent historian who really knows is stuff. He did another excellent documentary a few years ago called ‘Henry VIII Mind of a tyrant’ i remember at the time of it’s broadcast a lot of people i know who aren’t generally interested in history commented on how good it was . There is another documentary he called ‘Edward and Mary the unkown Tudors’ which i would also recommend checking out- both should be on Youtube . Also Historic Royal Palaces who run Hampton Court, The Tower of London, Banqueting House, Kew Palace and Kensington Palace have a Youtube channel and there are hundreds of interesting videos on their where they talk about the various work they do looking after all 5 Palaces

Henry VIII: Mind of a Tyrant is still available on youtube, it’s become one of my favorite documentaries. I also enjoy Starkey’s documentary on Elizabeth, and the one on Henry’s wives.
Simon Schama’s A History of Britain is my all time favorite documentary. The History of Scotland documentary is very good also, and I know I’ve come across a History of Ireland documentary too, but I’ve not watched it yet.

There was a really good documentary on Youtube that has since been taken off, called Royal Deaths and Diseases. I have looked everywhere for this documentary on DVD!
The Episodes are:
01. Living by the sword — medieval and early modern monarchs who went into battle
02. Madness — Explores the history of royal insanity in Britain, and the ways in which it was treated
03 – Decadence — sexual indulgence, gluttony, alcoholism, and drug addiction
04. Tainted blood — Hereditary Diseases such as hemophilia and Porphyria
05 – Royal Childbirth — the importance of producing a male heir, and the difficulties faced
Anyone else seen this?

I have just watched this: Inside the Body of Henry VIII
– Really interesting, it must have been awfully painful to be Henry after awhile, not to mention the poor wives to bear with the smell

Yeah I watched these documentries, and they are all good. As Barnett says Dr Dave does do an excellent job in presenting them. His no nonsence presenting is brilliant but he also in a way gives the watcher a challenge to find out more, well to me he does anyway. There are always new ones on there to discover and certainly it’s good there is something to watch on there other than the usual crap than there is on the tele.
