So just this mourning my father and I decided to join together and try to find our ancestors (FINALLY) on the famous ancestry.com and I have to tell you guys….it is the most confusing thing in the world! The TV commercials make it look easy but it’s not.
My father is a desendant of the Hatfields (e.g Hatfields & McCoys) and he’s really into finding out how exactly we’re related to them and which child of Devil Anse’s is our link, cause he know for sure Devil Anse is our great great great great great grandfather but unsure of how. All we have so far is my father’s mother whose maiden name was Langfitt and her mother’s maiden name was Hatfield and then her father (we think) is a Howard Hatfield…? And that’s where we got stuck and I don’t know where to go from there.. Then after trying there we went on to build a different tree for my mother’s side but that got us no where either.
• Grumble all you like, this is how it’s going to be.

I’ve often wondered about going on that site and finding out more about my family history. A few years ago someone on my dads’ side did a whole family tree that went back to 1526 and sent me a copy but my mum was adopted so that side has always been a bit of a blank. We tried searching out her adoption records after she died but didn’t get very far. I guess if you don’t have names you can get stuck pretty fast, yeah?

Mya,
I am not sure if this will be any help. In my geneology research, I’ve had luck using The Church of Latter Day Saints website. They are great collectors of family history information. This is their website: https://familysearch.org/
I know how frusturating geneological research can be. I’ve had luck with many branchs of my family, but have been searching for a long while to learn more about my surname, Rogers. A fellow researcher believes my family to be Welsh, but I cannot find immigration documents, which would date to post-1800’s.
Keep at it! When you make the great find, all the hard work is worth it.
