Hi everyone just wanted to say hello, still breathing, not left the planet or anything like that. (If you noticed that I havent been in haha).
Just been very busy as this coming Saturday 23rd is the local Armed Forces Day event and I have been helping out with the organisation. It has been lovely to have something to do but tiring and I am just so thankful it is a voluntary thing so when I couldnt do something I didnt. I have worked on the group’s site to update it and make it a bit more ‘swish’.
We have everything sorted now with tombola, music, displays, obstacle courses and what have you. Only big cloud hanging over everything (literally too) is the weather which promises to be rainy. Honestly you would think in June you would be on a good bet for some sunshine. I just hope the weather doesn’t keep everyone at home! We have the church hall on standby if it does turn out too miserable but we wont be able to do as much in that confined space, (we planned on being in the local school grounds).
Now I just have to work out what to wear so I need to prepare a sunny day outfit (pushing my luck there I think), a cold miserable day outfit and a very wet day outfit… still it is all in a good cause and raises funds for Help for Heroes. Getting a bit wet is nothing really when you compare it to other things.

Too right, what’s a little bit of water compared to what these brave men have done and continue to do. I hope all goes well for you Maggie.

Well it all went off very well, some of the promised stands did not turn up, put off by weather reports I think, but in the end we had only one real shower and it was over by the time we had all put up our brollies and got into rain coats etc. The wind was fierce though so I spent a lot of time chasing Union flags all over the place but I suppose the exercise was good for me!!!
I don’t know how much money we have amassed but it should be up on last year so we are all quite happy about it.
The Mayor came and shook hands, the Army cadets put up and hid some small one man tent thingies in the wooded area then camo’d them so it was hard to see where they were. The little boys had a football match each team having a soldier in goal and great fun had by all.
The TA had a tent up cooking food and doing a recruitment drive. The police walked around eating hot dogs. The hot Donut stall was popular. Even the ice cream van did a roaring trade though the wind chill factor of the day kept us more than cool. It is just the thought though isnt it, ice cream, high wind, rain showers, and flying leaves/dried grass cuttings slapping you in the face. So British, so summery…………………..
The obstacle course was a great spectator event with teams from a local building company, the TA, the Army cadets, the local school (where we held the event). All these quite what you might call ‘respectable’ people cheating like mad to complete the course. All in the best of taste of course
I won two ‘bath bombs’ in the shape of cupcakes on the tombola and (only narrowly) avoided having my face painted as a tiger phew………
Next Saturday we have the joint day (with other groups in the area) at Wollaton Park in Nottingham so more of the same then down to planning it all again for next year.
I will definitely sleep through tonight………………..

Maggy,
Sounds like a good time was had by all. I live in NYS. Our city is noted as # 2 in the US for rainfall. Seattle is # one. I know what it’s like to have to have a contingency plan in case of rain. Rain doesn’t stop us at all. Hope your next event is fun, and filled with warmth and sunshine. Get lots of rest.
