I thought it might be fun to do our own Desert Island as per Radio 4. If you don’t know the show (is that possible???) you pick and explain the choice of 8 favourite tracks of music (though occasionally an audio of a poem or sketch is accepted) then to finish you have to choose just one of the 8 – plus a book (you are given the bible and the complete works of Shakespeare) – plus a luxury item which cannot be something to help you escape from the island.
My Tracks
Bobby’s Girl – Susan Maughn
My sis and I made a record of this in a booth somewhere in Edinburgh early 60’s to send to dad who was away training to be a lighthouse keeper. It was a fav song in our house as dad was called Bobby. Memories of years long past.
The Dambuster’s March – Eric Coates
Love this, love the film, love it love it love it.
Tusk – Fleetwood Mac
Who needs 50 shades of grey? This track is ALL you need – get into the rhythm and go with it if you have a partner who can keep up with the beat. I love this – always a satisfying sort of ‘tune’.
Nimrod – Elgar
This makes my spine tingle and helps my spirit soar.
The craw killed the pussy o’ – Robin Hall and Jimmie McGregor
On sunny Sundays when I was young Mum, Dad, Sis and of course me used to go for a drive and picnic usually away up Loch Lomond. Dad had (I think it is called) and 8 track? And one of the tapes for it was a lot of Scottish songs which we all sang along to. I have incredibly happy memories from this song. ‘Noo here’s a tale of murrrrrder maist foul….’
Road Rage – Catatonia
I really like Cerys Matthews voice and think this is grrrrreat to sing along to.
‘Anything sung by’ – Pavarotti
Incredible voice which I really enjoy listening to.
Bohemian Rhapsody – Queen
Number 1 when I arrived at basic training 1975 – fond memories.
To take to the island I would after much thought take The Dambuster’s March simply because I really do love it.
Book – The book of the Nations Favourite Poetry so I could read something to suit the mood and because I could never select just one book from all the hundreds I love to read.
Luxury – never ending supply of paper and pens/pencils to write, draw etc.
