Her motto was “Semper Eadam,” “Always The Same.” I am reading Suzannah Lipscomb’s book, A Visitor’s Companion To Tudor England. She refers to Elizabeth’s motto as being, “Video et Tacio,” “I See and Remain Silent.” I don’t think I have ever heard that one before. Did she pick “Semper Eadam” after she became Queen? Have you guys heard this before?

I’m not entirely sure but I think Semper Eadem, was a motto her father may have used at one time.
Personally I love it I use Semper Fidelus (always faithful) quite a lot in my emails.
I can speak a little Latin and can read it but not always translate it. I taught myself Latin years ago, it’s a difficult language but once you have the basic foundations in place it’s quite simple really, although you must remember that sometimes the wording is backwards.
Prime example (excuse spelling)
In Nomine patris et filis et spritus sanctus.
Basic translation In the name of the father, son and holy spirit.
Spritus = Spirit
Sanctus= Holy.

Boleyn, I’ve never studied it, but if I read it very slowly, I can usually get what it means. At least part of it. Everything is backwards, isn’t it? But I think that happens in Spanish and Italian too. They probably think English is spoken backwards!
Have you ever heard of “Video et Tacio” as Elizabeth’s motto? It kind of fits her as a young girl, don’t you think?

Yeah it does. I see and say nothing, fits her to a T. I know she scratched a motto on the glass in her prison (loosely worded) at Hatfield I think.. Much is suspected of me, But nothing proved can there be.
I quite like that one too.
