A little bit of self-indulgence here, so please bear with me, but I thought I’d share a bit of good news with you all. Have just brought my mother back from the hospital today and things are going well. The treatment seems to be having some impact and the size of the tumour has shrunk. The treatment does have some side effects but she seems to be coping very well, all in all. The consultant said she was “very pleased”, which were words I never expected to hear. My mother is 82 and I’m not an idiot, so I know none of us go on forever, but I’ll settle for the here and now and be grateful for whatever time this treatment gives. So, for today at least, I promise to be happy, not be my grumpy self, and will try very hard not to upset anyone!

This is such a good thing to hear of Neil. I do hope today and many days to come will be happy. It is always good to hear when a treatment has worked well and your mother taking acoount of her age must be a very strong person (illness apart) to have coped with it so well. I am sure in part your support and that of you family will have been a great boon to her through all this.
Take each day as it comes and best wishes to you both.
PS When are you grumpy or do you ever upset anyone???

Thank you so much for all your good wishes. Yes, she is one very tough lady, she had to be in the time she lived through. She won a government award for her design on a propaganda poster for patrol torpedo boats when she was just 14! Different times, different values, but I like to think one or two might have stuck with me. Maggy, thanks for the high opinion of me, but I’m sure a couple of people on here would disagree and on a bad day I can make Kurt Wallander look like Mr. Happy!

Wow, She’s defintely one special lady. Different times and values maybe, but some of us still cling to those values and one of them was to respect our elders. We owe a tremendious debt of gratitude to our parents and grandparents, without their courage and in some case sacrifice of their lives none of us would be here to be able to give our opinions and share our thoughts and feelings. That debt can never be repaid, but we can make sure that they are given all the love and respect due to them.
Both my grandfathers risked their lives to give me my life, one of them had the distiction of serving in both World Wars and had 2 brothers killed in the Somme and another at Passedale. Whilst the other sailed out to Dunkirk many times to rescue the troops often under heavy fire, but brought as many as possible back home.
Neil you are what you are, don’t run yourself down we all have bad days, and all those who have the honour and privilage of being your freind understand that and don’t hold it against you…
