Some sad news today about the lovely Mr. Rhys-Meyers. According to the Daily Mail, he attempted suicide on Tuesday. He is fine now. If intereted, I've posted the link.
This story broke my heart. It seems addiction has gotten the better of him. I wish him well, and I hope he can find some peace and happiness in life.
I hope this link works…

Sadly, the death of JRM's mother, at the age of only 50, in 2007, is said to have hit him very hard (I remember reading the reports at that time). His father left when he was only 3 years old and responsibility for his upbringing then fell to his mother and his attachment to her was thus very strong. It would seem that since 2007 JRM has found it harder to keep his demons at bay. Let us all hope he can get the help he requires and that his future will bring him both peace and happiness. God bless, JRM.

I agree. He is a talented actor, even if I did not always like his interpretation of Henry. My favourite film of his remains “Match Point.” I wish him the best and to be able to defeat his addiction. It does seem his mother's death set off a firestorm of alcoholic-related incidences. I never want to hear of anyone wanting to take their own lives. One must be in a very dark, disturbing place at that moment. I hope he has support and love right now, and that his fans rally behind him, so that he knows he is not alone, and there are many people who love and admire him.

I just saw this on Entertainment Tonight. I was horrified that he might have died. Why does so much talent frequently go hand-in-hand with inner demons? Is it because they feel things more intensely? A 'source close to JRM' said it wasn't a suicide attempt, but a lapse in sobriety. I hope so. I hope he doesn't truly want to die. He is so immensely talented and I thoroughly enjoyed him in The Tudors. I hope he can find happiness.

I only read about this now! I sincerely wish it was only a 'lapse in sobriety' and not a proper suicide attempt; either way it sounds like a cry for help. He's an immensely talented actor who deserves peace and happiness. I hope he finds it.
I liked him in Gormenghast too; I think that was the first thing I saw him in.
