I meant to do this before then forgot and well……………..anyway
The idea came to me when I realised each time I saw certain of the portraits from ‘our’ period that I had a personal ‘title’ come to mind – a sort of way of separating each character in my mind rather than just by their name – often it is the pose/props or facial expression which ‘inspires’ me, so I thought it might be amusing to see if this happens with anyone else and get some of you to ‘re-name’ a portrait.
I’ll start of with one of my favourites
Hans Holbein of 3rd Duke of Norfolk:-

Queen (Bloody) Mary always looks like she’s in a foul mood in her portraits. The only actress to actually capture that look on the silver screen is Kathy Burke. I suppose you can understand why Mary wasn’t a happy bunny in any of her portraits given what she had gone through and was still going through.. Like Henry I think Mary was her own worst enemy, and although surrounded by people when Henry died he really did die a lonley and bitter old man (well old by their standards) and I think Mary was the same too. The people were bloody glad to see the back of both of them..
