The BBC Robin Hood was okay but I always liked Robin of Sherwood better. I totally loved that show when I was a kid! There's 'The Six Wives of Henry Vlll' and 'Elizabeth R' TV shows too. A little older (1970's) but amazingly well acted and still the benchmark for a lot of people.
If your looking for something different there's 'Blackadder' a comedy from the 80's that offers a different and totally hilarious view of English history. I totally recommend this It's four seasons long –
series 1 Richard lll and the fictional Richard IV
series 2 Elizabeth 1 (you'll never look at Queen Elizabeth the same way again!)
series 3 the Prince Regent
series 4 set in the trenches during WW1
All these shows are available on DVD – hope this helps a little!

I was just watching CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) and the tv mini-series “The Pillars of the Earth,” based upon Ken Folllett's bestselling novel, will air in Canada staring sometime in January. I am looking forward to it. There is some great Canadian talent casted in the show.
I think this show may have aired on Channel 4 in UK, but I am not sure?
I own the novel The Pillars of the Earth, but have yet to read it. I hope to read it over the holidays, but I am not sure how successful I will be.

“The Pillars of the Earth” mini-series is pretty good. I find the acting wonderful, and the production really brings to life Follett's novel. There are some minor changes, thus far, but I am willing to overlook them. Frankly, as long as Rufus Sewell (who plays Tom Builder) keeps looking fine, I will watch the show 'till the cows come home.
I found out recently that in now in Canada the DVD of the series is avaliable. So you may want to check that out if you don't want to start watching the TV show three episodes in.
I hope this helps. I would recommend reading the novel. It's a masterpiece!
