Sorry to go back to it again but………….
Henry’s Defence
I have let quite a few friends and family read the proof copy of the book and they all seemed to like it – even the ‘shocking’ reason for Anne’s execution. I have also sent it by PDF to a few of you who requested it with only I think two people responding to it. Obviously you all know much more of the facts concerning the story so possibly (bloody likely actually ) you didnt like it for that reason.
I am just wondering if I should go any further with it? Looking for opinions really. Leave it as a ‘fing wot I av dun’ and cross it off ‘me ol bucket list’ as it were or try actually selling it for money. I’d hate to sell it and people think what a load of sh!t and I know most of my friends, family and their acquaintences may only be being kind (no flies on me ya know!) I just don’t know what to do now so any opinions would be gratefully received. Don’t worry if you want to slate it that would probably balance out all the familial praise I am laden down with at the moment…
Basically is there a market do you think for a book about the whole Henry and Anne thing among the masses who don’t know Anne Boleyn from Anne of Green Gables or would it be too offensive to true Anne supporters and to accuracy and historical correctness?

Maggy I must email you, I was reading your thread while I was on holidays and was on wireless internet so I couldn’t receive big files in emails, then it slipped my mind, sorry. I would love to read more.
But just going by what I had read, it has me interested. Historical fiction on the Tudors is very popular right now, so of course there’s a market for it. As I’ve said to you before though, if you’re worried about using too much creative license just include an author note. I’m not sure how “fictional” you’ve gone with it so I couldn’t say whether you should do a preface or an end note though

Maggy, I have read it and thought it was brilliant! Always meant to get back to you about it, sorry
As Olga says there is definitely a market for historical fiction on the Tudors and in my opinion there can never be too much! I think you should definitely go further with it, and of course there’s a risk of people thinking it’s rubbish but you won’t know until you try. And who knows, you could end up making a tidy wee sum from it
Do put in an author’s note in, particularly regarding the more fictional aspects. Always pays to make people aware that whilst based on fact, it’s more a work of the imagination rather than a biography. I say go for it!!!!

Maggy, you should go for it! In this life we regret far more what we didn’t get around to rather than regretting things we did do. Something may come of it, something may not (I think something will!), but you’ll never know unless you give it a go. I’m with Bella in thinking there can never be enough books about the Tudors (or history in general) and I love all good books on the subject, either factual or fiction. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with well written historical fiction, just be sure to add your author’s notes regarding the fictional aspects of your work. Go for it!

Maggy,
I think I sent you my thoughts on the book. I absolutely think you should take the plunge. Like I said to you before, what a great twist at the end. As Bella says it is brilliant.
I know I knock fiction around a lot, but I do read it for enjoyment. And I enjoyed your book. I do think there is a market for it. Yes, I think you should put an author’s note giving the facts where you have taken liberties. Maybe a ‘what if’ preface?
Give it a go!

Gosh
thank you all
aren’t you just one lovely group of people?
Today I spoke to a lady who is a friend of a friend she didnt know me from Adam as they say and had been given Henry to read by our mutual friend. She was yakking on about it without knowing it was my story so that felt good too. I think she was quite shocked when OMF turned up and introduced us haha.
Okay I will sort out the errors in the proof and add a bit as you all suggest then go for it.
Now I have written the story and all that blah blah blah but I am stumped a bit at what to write for this add on bit about my meddling with the facts should I be precise about what bits of the action are total fantasy or what?
I have put in an apology to the lady whose honour has been impuned and have stated clearly near the end that it is fiction and should be read as such so what else do I need to add.
(Simple words please because my head has been bad again and we think I have had another TIA a couple of days ago so even the simplest of things takes me ages to decipher and then act on…)

I’m so sorry that I haven’t posted about this sooner, but life got in the way. I thoroughly enjoyed your book Maggyann. I think the twist was a stroke of genius! I envy you your wonderful imagination. You made Henry so real! I even felt sorry for him, which is saying a lot because I’m definitely NOT a Henry fan. I hope you continue with your writing.
