Oh Boleyn my condolences and kisses to your and your menagerie. The thing about the partners dying shortly after the other has been on my mind too. My grandmother has cancer and she hasnt got long at all left 🙁 she and my grandad have been married for 62 years, and they lived next door to one another when they were kids. I am not close with my grandparents, they were very nasty to me after my hubby committed suicide, but i am so sad for them both, it breaks my heart 🙁
Also the pound here is a very sad setup. You have to worry more about your cats than your dogs, because they legally can kill cats if they have no collar of chip. And even if they are chipped, you still have to fork out the same amount. Our poor little mowe was beaten by a neighbour when she was a kitten, and he took her collar, which we think he did because of the law of being able to kill a cat if there is no collar, which is supposed to be a clear indication they are feral. We were at the hospital when i was pregnant with ava at that time, and i was devestated when i got home and found my kitten couldnt even be picked up without crying out. Some people, my god, this man was a drunk and we used to hear him yelling at his wife. At this time i lived in a low socio economic area, and there is still a huge difference in australia between poor areas and other areas, and the difference is a lack of morals and drug taking. It sounds cliche, but it is the way it is here. And the local cops there were so corrupt, you couldnt expect them to do a thing, half the time they wouldnt show up for hours…i had never lived in an area like that before, and i was surprised that just about everybody did drugs and didnt work, or if the did, they stole anywhere and anyway they could, even from each other!

What state are you in Tash? We had a lost dog who turned up in our street last Christmas night, I called a ranger to pick him up the next day and he scanned him and told me he’d drop them straight back to the owners.
Also microchipping is not expensive. I haven’t heard of a law saying you can kill a cat without a collar either.

Thank you everyone for your kind words.. Treacle has been out and about but you can tell she is still very down. She is eating however so that’s a good sign, but she is still calling for Smudge. The boys have been really brilliant with her Rascal has been taking food into her and coaxing her out to sit on the box and they just nuzzle up to her almost as if they are cuddling her.

Glad to hear Treacle is doing okay so far. I didn’t know chipmunks mated for life, it must be just horrible for her
And I hope you’re okay too, Boleyn, losing a pet is always hard.
Thank you Bella. The trouble is we get so attached to our animals, they have such a short life span. I miss Smudge of course but we know he had a happy life and I think he knew that we loved him.. In fact what surprized me more than anything was that although I cried when he died so did Dinosaur, Men don’t usually go all soft like that over animals, but he was just as heartbroken as I was.. Like I said he’s a crusty bad tempered stinky Dinosaur on the outside but on the inside he’s a big softy who will do anything it takes to make sure we are happy..

Grrr what is it with people and bloody fireworks. My poor chipmunks have been terrified this week with the bloody fireworks. The silly woman next door decided to have a little party, the upshot of it being fireworks. quite apart from the noise which terrified my chimunks, there was also the danger factor. She let one firework off and it hit the open window of our son’s bedroom window exploded and shattered the window, it was a good job our son was out otherwise he would have been hurt. I wasn’t happy, and Dinosaur had words had many a word to say to her.. All she said well we shouldn’t have had the window open !!!!!!!

Very true Sharon. Animals are almost like children, to us really. I was very upset when Smudge died and it’s also the same with the fish when I lost Missy my Volatan it hit me hard especially since I reared her from a tiny baby. She would only trust me to feed her and would happily come and sit on my hand to eat her dinner or when ever Dinosaur had to go in the tank to do anything. Volatans, Dwarf fuzzy lions and Raidiatas as Anyanka probably knows are extremely poisonous or I should say have vemonous spines. They are beautiful creatures though.
Animals bring a lot of joy into people’s lives they are amazing really they don’t ask much of their owners just to be loved and I love all animals. They are all terribly spoilt.

Thanks Neil, Boleyn, milady Duchess and Sharon. I was a late comer to cats, we got 2 back in 1995. One died last year and the other yestaerday.
I’m going to wait a while to get my new cat/s. I’d rather wait and get my cat rather than try to get any cat to fill the hole.
Quite right Anyanka. Some people rush out to buy another pet to replace the one they’ve lost hoping that the new pet will will be just the same as the one who has died. This works for some people so I’m not knocking them for it, but personally I always take my time in getting another pet. Every animal has their own unique little charater, and it’s those little foibles that are the attraction when it comes to a pet.
I think in some cases pets actually chose us rather than the other way around if that makes sence, and certainly I feel that has always been the case where our pets are concerned. Our pets somehow reflect us, in short they are bonkers.
