Here’s a very funny review of Fifty Shades of Grey. I’ll warn you, it has some very colourful bad language in it, in case you’re offended by that sort of thing

I just finished The Boleyns by David Loades and I’m quite disappointed. Reading Wilkinson’s book on Mary Boleyn which I’m finding okay, not earth shattering. Loades referenced a couple of things from Ives which I found a bit surprising so I’m going to start the Ives book on Anne this weekend, it’s about time I read it.

Olga, David Loades also states that Anne was charged with conspiring to poison Mary and Henry Fitzroy and that this was in the indictment (page 162). I dispaired when I read that because it is simply completely wrong. Actually it was that which made me lose interest in the book. It’s difficult to fathom how he came up with that. Drove me dippy!
I winge about historical fiction being inaccurate, but when a top historian can’t give the correct information about the indictments brought against Anne then there’s no hope!! If it was Weir then I would understand it.

Poor old Alison. She’s getting defensive in her old age, I think she’s angry about Susan’s fictional book on Jane Grey She spent all her author notes in her new book ranting about how Frances really was a monster. Also I think she’s got a hidden agenda with all of her references to “history” in it.
I would like to find Loades and thump him with my very expensive copy of The Boleyns.

I’m working through Claire’s book atm, I’m waiting for my paperbacks to arrive and I took up her offer of a free kindle version. Trying to use the kindle app (as I have a Kobo) but reading at my desktop gives me a headache and my laptop is in hospital. I’m quite looking forward to the next book too.
I finished Kelly Hart’s book but I was a bit disappointed, it started off well and then it sort of petered out to talk about Henry’s wives rather than mistresses.
I’m currently reading Ive’s book on Anne and honestly, it’s just awesome. It’s so dense, I don’t know if any book I read on Anne is going to top this one.
I’m a bit stuck on what to read next. I might start some books on Henry as my Suzannah Lipscomb books have arrived.
Oh I also finished Maggie’s first book too. How many of you have read it?

OK I am obviously talking to myself here I finished Ive’s book on Anne, finished Kingmaker’s daughter by PG and loved both books. I’m re-reading Julia Fox’s book on Jane Boleyn because I seem to have forgotten most of it. I wanted to check back on something I read in both Loades and Ive’s about Jane being imprisoned after attending a protest for Mary. Although Fox doesn’t seem to agree it’s likely.
I keep thinking I should read something different but I haven’t managed it yet. I have more Tudor books arriving soon, I got the Early Loves of Anne Boleyn by Wilkinson, and a book on Lord Morley which filled me with nerdish glee when I discovered it’s existence.

I just finished reading a trilogy about Robert the Bruce, by N. Gemini Sasson. Really enjoyable books. She brings all of the characters on both sides of the story to life.
Olga,
When I want to get away from the Tudors for a while, I go to Scotland. Love it there.
Fox doesn’t share Ive’s belief that Jane was arrested that day. Starkey doesn’t either. There is a note in the margin of the story of the arrest. I think George and Thomas’ name appear there. It is thought that they were the arresting officers on the scene. Not that Jane was arrested. Fox does not believe Jane was involved in this. I tend to agree. Unless of course, I am wrong and she really was the evil bawd some have portrayed her as.

I’m still plouging through The Expected One. I only manage to allow myself 20 minutes of reading a day, cause it is scheduled into my work’s timetable. As soon as work is over I develop ADHD LOL. The book has improved, I still hav issues with the author trying to convince me that this story is real, there are just a tad too much fantasy in the way things have unfolded to finding the Gospel Of Mary Magdalene to make it believable. They have just found it, and I think I’m about to be given the first Book of Mary to plugh through, which should be interesting. Or my guess is that after an improvement in the book as we raced towards the discovery of the book, I will now be bored with reading scriptures.
The book however has posed a question to me, that has made me question my convictions. The book states that the Church doesn’t want people to know abut Jesus’ marriage or his offspring as it will ruin people’s belief in God or something. which made me think to myself, I wouldn’t care if it turned out that a)Jesus was married b) he had sex c) he had children. Does this make me non-Christian?
Off course it doesn’t make you non-Christian I believe that Mary did not remain a virgin after she gave birth too Jesus, and I’m still Catholic. In the bible it says something along the lines of ‘Jesus saw his 5 brothers with his mother’. So some people believe that he had 5 brothers and at least 2 sisters. Really devout catholic people however, like to believe that Mary did remain a virgin and Jesus didn’t marry Mary Magdalene. I think its just a matter of how you interpret the Bible 🙂
I’m reading ‘The Queen’s Governess’ by Karen Harper. Its from Kat Ashleys point of view, its quite good! I’m certain some of you guys have read it

Bill, I shouldn’t worry. The Church, even in this day and age, likes to tell us what to do in order to be good Christians, I firmly believe that what we do and who we are matters far more than simply going to Church. I don’t go to Church but like to believe I am a Christian and half-decent person, whilst many people I know who do go to Church are some of the nastiest people I’ve ever come across. Standing in a Church doesn’t make anybody a Christian any more than me standing in a garage makes me a car! This, I should add, is just my opinion and I have no wish to cause any offence to others with strong religious convictions, and I hope and trust I haven’t done so.

I think Christianity always changes depending on which priest you’re talking to I’ve hard a lot of different things from a lot of different priests.
I just started Ladies in Waiting by Anne Somerset and will be putting it down soon, it’s not very good at all. I think I’ll start Tudor Women by Alison Plowden.
Sharon, thank you. Another mystery solved. Scotland sounds nice My knowledge of Robert the Bruce is very limited, but I have seen those books around, I should give them a try. Actually I should probably start my copy of Gates of Fire by Pressfield, which my favourite cousin insisted I read. Being Greek, I should probably do a bit more reading in that area. He also gave me a set of books by John Julius Norwich on the Byzantium, which I have had for three years and haven’t started
