Hi all…

I am expecting a Kindle for Christmas and I've been trying to not buy any books until I get it, but once it is in my hands, I would like to start loading up on a list of books about King Henry, his wives, Tudor life in general, and even Elizabeth, Mary, and the battle for the throne after Edward's death.  Fiction or nonfiction (sometimes I need to break up the nonfiction monotony with some fiction).

So, bring'em.  I all ready own David Starkey's Six Wives and his book on Elizabeth I so no need to include those.  Everything else, though is fair game.

Thanks!

Meg

I'd recommend Starkey's 'Virtuous Prince' as well, which focuses on Henry's younger years.  Another excellent one on Henry is '1536: The Year That Changed Henry Vlll' by Suzannah Lipscomb.

For Anne you can't go past E W Ives' 'The Life and Death of Anne Boleyn' and of course Alison Weir's 'The Lady in the Tower' which focuses on Anne's downfall.

One of my favourite books that takes in the succession crises after Edwards death is 'The Sisters Who Would Be Queen' by Leanda de Lisle.  Whilst a big part of it is devoted to Lady Jane Grey, the later chapters look at the tragic fates of her younger sisters, Katherine and Mary, and what happened to them under Elizabeth's rule.

I think I've said this before but my absolute favourite fiction book/historical novel set in the Tudor period is 'Legacy' by Susan Kay, about Elizabeth 1.  It's just stunning.  Least in my opinion!  Oh, and 'Wolf Hall' by Hillary Mantel is amazing too.

I think most of those should be available for Kindle downloads – not sure about 'Legacy' though.  It was out of print for a long while so not sure about its electronic status, but if you can, snap it up!

Hope these help and happy hunting  Laugh
