BoleynBlue,
A great list of books. John Guy's bio on Mary Stuart is fantastic. One of the best historical bios I've read.
I am not sure how much reading I'll get done this summer. Back to the old labour force for me, but I shall try to get some done. I've also stepped awaty from non-fiction for the time being.
Currently, my list would be:
1. Now May You Weep– Deborah Crombie
2. The Girl Who Played with Fire– Steig Larrson
3. In a Dark House– Deborag Crombie
4. Katherine– Anya Seton (I always re-read this in the summer)

At the moment I have lined up
– the Shopaholics series by Sophie Kinsella for some light entertainment
– King Henry VIII and his Court by Alison Weir
– Russka by Edward Rutherfurd (who is easily one of my favourite authors)
– Thirteen Hours by Deone Meyer (this one I have to read for a university seminar on crime fiction)

Non-fiction:
Mary, Queen of Scots, by John Guy
My Heart is My Own, by John Guy
Jane Boleyn, by Julia Fox
Non-fiction:
I need a break from non-fiction, and I'm off to read about Scotland:
The Crown in the Heather, by N. Gemini Sasson
Worth Dying For, by N. Gemini Sasson
(about Robert The Bruce)
I too read Katherine, by Anya Seton every summer.
I haven't read the Game of Thrones books, but I am enjoying the TV series. Those books are the next in line.

If you decide to read the books, be prepared because it's a series of 7 books, none of which is less than 600 pages long. The 5th book is set to be released next month. As far as I can tell, it's a long-term commitment.

Anyanka, I would never want to throw you out of here. Not liking Katherine is your opinion. There are plenty of books my family and friends read that I hated. It's an issue of taste, that's all.
What did you think of Jane Boleyn? I've heard a variance of opinions about it, so would love to hear yours. I believe I gave my opinion somewhere on the forum, but cannot remember.

^ I've read Jane Boleyn. From what I can remember it wasn't too bad but suffered heavily from lack of direct sources on Jane herself so Julia Fox made up a whole lot on what Jane was doing, where she was etc. Having said that, I have just ordered her latest book on Katherine of Aragon and her sister Juana….
Books in my to-read-pile :
Elizabeth l by Richard Rex
Katherine Swynford by Alison Weir
and fiction:
Room by Emma Donoghue
Sovereign by C J Sansom
The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ by Philip Pullman
The Mysteries of Udolpho by Ann Radcliffe

I dont really have a lineup. I could read one of the many books I have sitting at home that I need to read or I could go out and buy a new one haha!
Currently I am reading Elizabeth and Mary by Jane Dunn. I just started it so it could take awhile.
After that I will probably finish the bio on President Lyndon Johnson that I had started by Doris Goodwin. I am a little over halfway through it but had to take a break.
Then I will probably switch over to some fiction. I read all of James Patterson's books so I'll probably pick one of those up.
A goal of mine is to read a book on every King and Queen of England since Alfred the Great, going along with the Yale English Monarch Series and adding in some books on Kings/Queens they have not covered yet. It's a big goal and will take some years!
Happy reading everyone!

First, Jane Dunn's book is one of my favs. I hope you enjoy it!
Two, I hope you reach your goal of reading a book on every King and Queen since Alfred the Great. Have you started any of them? If so, are there any you would recommend?
Cheers!

Brett, I refer to Jane Dunn's book all the time. What a great site The Yale English Monarch Series is. I had not heard of it before. It has some great listings. Glad you brought it up.
Duchess, It is so hard to find good books on the early kings. I have read some, but cannot think of the names because it has been a long time since I read them. The most recent one I read, however, was a novel about Queen Emma. She was married to Aethelred the Unready and later to Canute The Great. The name of the book is Forever Queen by Helen Hollick. This was a great book. Ms Hollick sticks to historical fact as much as possible. I just ordered her other book, I Am The Chosen King. It is the story of Harold. She writes similar to Elizabeth Chadwick.

Sharon,
I've heard of Hollick's book but have not read it. I must check it out, especially since you indicate she write similar to Elizabeth Chadwick whom I adore.
Let me know what you think of I am The Chosen King. I've not heard of this book.
