I just finished watching on You Tube, the 10 Episode series; “By The Sword Divided”, by Alexander Baron; which I enjoyed very much. Thank Zeus for the internet and You Tube here in the States, if it were not for them, we could never see such productions as these. These productions give those of us living here, an opportunity to imagine how the middle ages were lived in England and western Europe.
Here is a LINK for the 1st Episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?…..DBspYCHkqI

We seldom get any recent (or old) productions concerning England or Europe here in the US. We must rely on You Tube and/or the other internet sites for that type entertainment. Too bad (and sad) we get so little programming in the way of cultural shows here.
If anyone knows of other presentations about life in England/Europe in the Middle Ages, please post them, for us who have limited access anywhere else. Thanks
PS I am presently also watching BBC’s “Tales from Green Valley”; also on YouTube. Very entertaining!!!!

The shadow of the crown is a good series, deals with the reign of H7 from Bosworth onwards.. found it very intersting. It’s also fun to see the studio effects of the era, they really were crap considering what we have now.
The devils crown is another good series, again the affects are crap, and you can see how bad the scenary really is, but hey ignore that and it’s not too bad.. I guess your’ve watched the 1970’s series of Henry 8 six wives..you can se the top of the scenery set and a microphone in Catherine of Aragon’s story, and in Anne’s you can see the shadow of one of camera men. Haven’t seen any c*ck ups in Jane’s or A.O.C or K.P’s but again there is a microphone and shadow of a camera man seen in K.H’s episode.. doesn’t make much difference to me really as it’s a good series..
In Elizabeth R in the first episode, when Elizabeth goes back to Hatfield when there is a close up of her riding away you can see that whatever she is sitting on is not a horse. There is also the scene when Thomas seymour in the king’s room has trouble putting his sword away.

Which PBS station do you get in Kentucky? I get WGBH(Boston) nad KCTS(Seattle) and find WGBH to be the better one. Mind you, it does a lot of co-productions with British tv mainly BBC but sometimes ITV and Channel 4.
I saw Tudor Monestry Farm as well as Tudor Christmas ( Ruth Goodman et al) and the Mind of a Tyrant by Starkey on WGBH in the past few years.
It's always bunnies.

Thank you, Larry, for posting this. Will try to get to it soon.
Has anyone seen BBC’s The Hollow Crown? I rented them through youtube. What an excellent production. There are four parts, Richard III, Henry IV part one and part two, and Henry V. I only know who two of the actors were. Jeremy Irons played the aging Henry IV and Tom Hiddleston played Henry V. Was he better than Kenneth Branagh? IMHO he was just as good. They were not expensive and they are worth every penny. I couldn’t wait forever for them to show up on American TV, and I was taking a class about Shakespeare’s works.

Just starting YouTube’s “The Shadow of the Tower”, by Rosemary Anne Sisson. It seems to be 13 (1 hour) episodes, possibly centering around H7 and Elizabeth of York — but not too sure about the main theme. Can’t wait to start viewing it!
I couldn’t view “The Hollow Crown” because I don’t have an account with YouTube. But, yes there are many videos on YouTube concerning Middle Age period pieces.
Anyanka, I have DirecTV, and only get one PBS station, but I really don’t know which one it is. I’ll have to check that out. I do know they produced “I, Claudius” many years ago and it is free on YouTube now. With time, I hope to watch that series again. I’ve always enjoyed the actor who played Claudius (????) He may have played H7 in another, more recent series as well.
