Hi guys, I’m trying to compile some research on Catherine Carey atm. Does anybody know the details of her betrothal and marriage to Francis Knollys. And does anybody have details as to her appointment as lady in waiting to Anne of Cleves? I have found some info in primary sources etc, but i am wondering at her being betrothed to someone whos family were clearly favoured by henry, and the fact that he made a parlaimantery decision to give francis, and his more importatly his wife catherine carey the estate that had been in his family, as it is clear that she was given the estate too, even on her own accord. I know that Henry had shown favour to Francis’s father, and that Francis was one of the men sent to escort Anne of Cleves from Calais. I’m just wondering at Henry’s motivations behind he and Catherines favour shown even after the fall from grace of her notorious aunt… Obviously Catherine didnt literally bear the name boleyn, but as the quote says, the boleyn family suffered great disfavour and hurt after the death of anne, by henry, so im just wondering at catherine being betrothed and married so easily.’ Were she and Francis Knollys in love? How had he lost the estate his family had owned? Why did henry after Francis’ marriage to catherine make such a point of giving it back to him, and including his new wife in the title? I’ve done alot of delving, i just wondered if anyone knew the details actual details and conditions of the betrothal marriage and reinstatement of land and title…
