I’m not sure I fully deserve hugs all round. After i managed to convince her that George and Anne were really as close as she thought they were, she announced that well at least Anne wasn’t like the 5th wife ‘She was a prostitute’. If I had a mouth of water, it would have been sprayed all over this poor student, I couldn’t help but laugh. I did manage to say ‘No she wasn’t’ but the bell went before I could restor Katherine’s dignity. What I got from it was that if you walk around naked while married to the king you are a prostitute. I am so sorry Katherine Howard fans that I didn’t have enough time to right this wrong, but if an opportunity arises again, maybe while teaching Evolution, I will set this young girl on the right path.

Ha Ha well I’ve heard some things said in my time. But K.H a prostitute because she wondered about naked..DUH that one is a corker. I guess I must be a prositiute then cause I wonder about naked, especially when I’ve a had a bath. LOL.
It just goes to prove just how much television can corrupt a person’s mind. She must have watched the Tudors and believes that what she saw was 100% the truth. Pity I didn’t live closer to you I would happily give up my free time (of which I have lots of) to come to your school and whip the history right into her, and others who think like her. History as it is with us all here is my passion, and it the one thing that seriously frosts my cookies when you get idiots like this who believe what they see on the television is really what happened 100’s of years ago. I couldn’t agree more with ‘ya Boleyn! I’m always shocked at how people can watch a show like “The Tudors” and think THATS what really happened! It’s just a TV show, come on!
Thanks for trying to set her straight Bill! Before I had my son, I used to be a teacher’s assistant at a small private school. But, I dealt with 8 or 9 year olds not teenagers. Thank God. I don’t think I could teach teens. You have A LOT more patience than I do!! Good Luck!

Poor KH…she had sex with 2 or 3 men , one of whom was her husband and endulged in some heavy petting with another man and this young lady thinks that KH is a prositute. You gotta wonder how judgemental she’s going to be of her peers when they start getting sexually active.

I gotta agree with ‘ya Anyanka. And I believe in David Starkey’s Six Wives book, he stated that he believed Catherine Howard and Culpepper never had sex, though they INTENDED to. Antonia Fraser believes they DID have sex. (According to her book, The Six Wives of Henry VIII ) I’ve often wondered why Culpepper (considering some of his personal history) would go through what he did for an illicit affair with the queen. He was ambitious, so maybe he was hoping Henry would die soon and he could marry Catherine, who would be Queen Dowager?? Hmmm….
As for Mannox and Dereham, well:
Her relationship with her music teacher, Henry Mannox when she was 13, to ME suggest that Mannox molested her. Mannox and Catherine both confessed during her adultery trial that they had engaged in sexual contact, but not intercourse. Catherine was even quoted as saying, “At the flattering and fair persuasions of Mannox, being but a young girl, I suffered him at sundry times to handle and touch the secret parts of my body which neither became me with honesty to permit nor him to require.” Most likely, she was a young girl who just wanted to be loved, and mistook his intentions for love, not what they really were. Then in 1538, she and Dereham started to have a sexual relationship. They became lovers, addressing each other as “husband” and “wife”. Dereham also entrusted Catherine with various wifely duties, such as keeping his money when he was away on business. Many of Catherine’s roommates among the Dowager Duchess’s maids of honour and attendants knew of the relationship, which apparently ended in 1539 when the Dowager Duchess caught wind of the matter. Despite this disapproval, Catherine and Dereham may have parted with intentions to marry upon his return from Ireland, agreeing to a precontract, as it was then known. If indeed they exchanged vows of their intention to marry before having sexual intercourse, they would have been considered married in the eyes of the Church.
I just don’t think Catherine should be considered a prostitute. She was a young girl, who just kept looking for love in ALL the wrong places. If anything she deserves our pity not our judgement.
