I am trying to find out when Margaret (Jane’s sister) married John Shelton does anyone have any ideas on this?
I have googled but can’t seem to track down anything and find it hard right now to think out of the box as it were in searching so my basic question being ‘marriage Margaret Parker to John Shelton’, I get a list of their children etc but not the date of their marriage.
Also am I right in thinking Jane’s brother Henry married Grace (somebody – must check that) in 1523 when she was probably between 8 and 10 years old?
Thank you any one who can help. Tis for my next story which is coming along in great leaps and strides.

I don’t have an answer for you Maggyann, I just want to say I am so impressed that you are writing another story. I have a number of stories circulating in my brain 1 novel and 2 musicals but I just lack the motivation to even put pen to paper. So bravo on your efforts. And I hope someone can help you.

Thank you Bill
As to motivation I know what you mean as I have had stories in my head for years and not until this time of enforced sort of ‘nothing much to do’ did I find it within myself to actually work harder at getting the stories down.
I seem at times to be almost taken over by the people I am writing about and honestly do feel as though I have voices in my head. I just sit here typing away and find it quite interesting myself to read the days effort later………
I do hope you can find the time to put your ideas into words it is so invigorating and also seems to make life seem lighter in some way. Can’t really explain it.
As my friends kept saying to me when I dithered JFDI !!!

Maggy,
Jane’s brother Henry born about 1513 married Grace Newport born 1515 on May 18th 1523. Grace was only 8 when they married. Married secondly, by 1549, Elizabeth Stanley, daughter and heiress of Sir Phillip Calthrope of Erwarton.
I can’t find dates for Margaret. I tried the peerage page, but got nowhere as to dates. You probably found what I found.
Jane was born about 1510. I think Fox claims Margaret was two years younger than Jane. She married John Shelton and had 5 children. I can’t find a marriage date or a birth date. Died in 1558.
That was exhausting!

Thank you so much for that Sharon aren’t you a star!
I have Jane down in my notes as being born around 1505 and being more or less of an age but for months either side of George.
Poor Grace married at 8 then dying so young or maybe that should say because of eh?
Thank you for those details though I do appreciate it.
Isn’t it really annoying when you think back to them not bothering to record marriages, births and deaths and here we are today practically needing a PIN number to participate in each new day…………….

Maggy,
I looked a little further.
Yes, Grace was only 8, and Henry was only 10.
The 1510 date is incorrect for Jane though. That is what it said on the peerage page I found, but most other places including Fox give Jane’s birth date as 1505. I find the peerage page often has dates that differ from other sources. Obviously, I’d go with 1505. George and Jane were only separated by months. Not years. Geesh! I didn’t catch that yesterday. I was hot and cranky.
Fox shows the chart for the Parker family. She says Jane’s brother, Sir Henry (died 1552) married Grace Newport, (died 1549). Their son Sir Henry, Lord Morley, (died 1577) married Elizabeth Stanley, (died 1591).
Jane’s father seems to have outlived Jane’s brother. Her father died in 1556. Jane’s brother is listed as Sir Henry. His son received the title of Lord Morley’s after his grandfather’s death.
Sorry about the mix up. Hope that clears it up a bit. And yes, it is totally annoying when there are no birth and/or death records.

Most Parish records don’t start until 1558. From 1558 onwards they’re quite detailed but zippo pre 1558. I found that out when looking into the death of Thomas and Henry Boleyn, sons of Thomas and Elizabeth, following the Weir suggestion that they had lived until their teens, because the brass cross on the tomb of Thomas said 1520, which it doesn’t. It’s so frustrating.
