Sir Francis Weston was approximately 25 yrs old at the time of his death. In 1532 he was made a gentleman of the Privy Chamber. At the time of Anne’s coronation, he was made a Knight of the Bath. He shared governorship of Guernsey with his father, who had once held the position of Under-Treasurer of the Exchequer. His mother had been one of Katherine of Aragon’s ladies. He was married to Anne Pickering, and they had a son Henry. He was well liked by Anne and Henry, he was quite popular, a friend of George’s and a member of the Boleyn faction. He could play the lute and was a fine athlete. Oh, and apparently he was a flirt of the first order. Weston’s family had offered money to save him. A bishop and an ambassador had tried to intercede, but nothing worked. I wonder if Henry even knew about the money offer or the intercessions?
When Anne was rambling after her arrest, she mentioned that Francis had said he loved her. This may have been what got him arrested on May 4th. Then again she never mentioned Brereton and he was arrested on that day too.
If this purge of all things Boleyn had never happened, I think Weston would have been just fine. He would have lived his life at court as a friend to his king and queen.
