Happy St David’s Day! Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus!

“Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus!” to all those celebrating today, whether you live in Wales or have Welsh ancestry. I know my parents in Wales will have a bunch of daffodils brightening up their home.

Why am I writing about St David’s Day on a blog about Tudor history?

Well, because the Tudors came from Welsh stock with Henry VII being the son of Edmund Tudor and, of course, being born at Pembroke Castle.

But did the Tudors celebrate St David’s Day?

Historian Nathen Amin has written an excellent article on Henry VII – “Henry Tudor, a Proud Welshman” – https://nathenamin.com/2013/03/01/henry-tudor-proud-welshman/
